Today we also tested our new Italian-made crusher/destemmer machine.
Last week we pressed white grapes in whole clusters, with stems and all, and it required more pressure than our little ratchet press can provide. After processing the grapes in the crusher, getting the juice out of the berries is a much easier task and this time no problem for our press. Another lesson learned.
So picking and processing the grapes went pretty smooth, thanks to our new equipment. Cleaning after the grape juice is transferred into the tank is the only task that still takes a lot of time.
Guess we are as ready as we can for receiving the new vintage Cabernet Sauvignon grapes later this month. Home winemaking is fun!
